Susan Gold —
Counselor, Teacher, Writer, Tarot Reader

I have found Tarot to be a wonderful tool for self-reflection, counseling, and storytelling. It is visual poetry, myth, and archetype, and the images so aptly mirror the range of response to human dilemma.

Counselor
Previously I worked as a crisis intervention counselor for survivors of relationship abuse. Sometimes, I would use picture cards to solicit responses from overwhelmed and reticent clients. This is where I first learned the power of images when language fails us. It was a natural leap for me to study Tarot and become a Tarot counselor.

More recently I have started a practice as a certified hypnotherapist and am exploring ways to combine my interest in tarot and hypnosis.

Teacher
I currently teach high school English and have previously taught college composition and literature courses. I love to teach and get great satisfaction teaching others how to use the Tarot for their personal growth.

Writer
I have a Master’s degree in Creative Writing and have been in a writing group for many years. I do spreads for the characters in the novel I’ve been working on, and I also use the cards to generate ideas and even to help me work through writer’s block. In August 2006, I teamed up with Evelyn Jean Pine to teach workshops specializing in writing with the Tarot.

Tarot Reader
I have been studying Tarot since 2002 and regularly attend the Bay Area Tarot Symposium. I am also a member of the American Tarot Association and have been a volunteer reader for their free readings sites:

  • The Free Tarot Network: January 2005 – March 2007
  • The Free Reading Network: December 2005 – March 2007

In January 2006, I teamed up with Carole Pierce of Crossroads Tarot. Together, we do readings at parties in the San Francisco Bay Area and also offer classes and workshops on the Tarot.

I chose The Magician’s Table as the name of my business because The Magician brings inspiration and the drive and discipline to manifest dreams. Displayed on the Magician’s table are images of the four suits of Tarot: a Pentacle symbolizing our basic physical needs and innate connection with nature; a Cup representing our capacity to feel and dream; a Sword signifying our ability to be thoughtful and analytical; and a Wand which stands for our desire to create and ability to take action. The Magician is the only card in the deck that includes all four suits.
